HISTORIC PRESERVATION / COMMERCIAL
The Spencer’s Mill building has been a landmark in Mount Airy since 1892, first as a tobacco factory, then as a textile mill. The building now houses a 70 room Tribute Portfolio hotel, part of the Marriott brand.
The Balladeer stands as a monument to the town’s past and nods to local bluegrass music roots, regional granite and textile craftsmanship, as well as hometown storyteller Andy Griffith.
The renovations included modern HVAC systems, a new elevator, and accessibility and building code upgrades. The original wood floors and heavy timber columns and beams were preserved. New windows matching the existing were placed in the original window locations.
A new courtyard connects the hotel to it’s future venue space.
