The existing one story building in downtown Asheville was built as the Gulf Pride Service Station in 1941. With rounded corners and edges, projecting central pavilion, a porthole window, curved glass block, and a three-part molded band on the upper façade, the building is a fine example of the Art Moderne style.
Rowhouse Architects created a design to renovate the building, converting it into a restaurant on the street level with a brewery on the lower level. A one story addition to the north of the existing building restrooms and a portion of the kitchen was constructed. The existing parking lot was converted into a lushly planted beer garden.
